BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS
Chapter 74 · Baptism by Fire
洗礼 / Senrei · Code Arc · Kishimoto & Ikemoto
Eida, Daemon, and Amado arrive at Konoha by train. The station crowd falls under Eida's charm instantly — civilians, shinobi, even Sai finds her beautiful. Shikamaru greets them, calm but unable to act against her. The "special mission" from Chapter 73 is now in motion: Boruto and Kawaki are assigned to live with Eida and Daemon in a secluded house outside the village proper.
The cohabitation begins. Kawaki is forced to play nice with Eida's crush while keeping his guard up — he senses Momoshiki's spirit still latched onto Boruto. Daemon, cocky and childlike, effortlessly one-hit KOs both Boruto and Kawaki when they test him, confirming he's stronger than Jigen but weaker than Isshiki.
Eida's charm spreads through the village. Chocho and Inojin lose control admiring her. Mitsuki falls under her spell too — crushing the fan theory that he might have Ōtsutsuki-related immunity. At least Sarada and Shikadai seem unaffected (or their reactions are muted, similar to Shikamaru's calm composure). Konohamaru delivers the most comedic reaction of the chapter.
Meanwhile, Code is mentally preparing to attack and conquer Konohagakure, amassing Ten-Tails power. The clock is ticking.
Daemon's one-hit KO on Boruto and Kawaki — the panel where he casually stops Kawaki's black rods and retaliates with overwhelming force. The smirk on his face, the shock on theirs, and the confirmation that this child is stronger than Jigen. Fans called it "the most humbling panel in the series" and "the moment we realized the power ceiling just got higher."
- The baptism of proximity — Boruto and Kawaki aren't fighting Eida; they're living with her. The "fire" isn't combat — it's the slow burn of forced intimacy with someone who can control hearts. Can you trust your own feelings when they're being manipulated?
- The baptism of powerlessness — Daemon humiliates the two strongest teenagers in Konoha without breaking a sweat. The "fire" is the realization that strength is relative, and the next tier of threats doesn't care about your protagonist status.
- The baptism of observation — Sarada and Shikadai watch from the margins, unaffected (or less affected). The "fire" is the burden of seeing clearly while everyone around you burns with adoration. They may be the only ones capable of planning a counterattack.
Chapter 74 is a dialogue-heavy setup chapter that moves the pieces into place but doesn't flip the board. Eida and Daemon's arrival, the cohabitation mission, and the charm spreading through Konoha are necessary beats — but the pacing is glacial for a monthly series. Daemon's power display is the highlight, and Mitsuki's theory-crushing moment stings for fans who wanted more for him. The Sarada/Shikadai immunity question is intriguing, but we'll need another month (or three) for answers.
If you love slow-burn political tension and power-scaling debates… this chapter will mildly warm you. If you wanted action, wait for Code's invasion.
