KAGURABACHI
Chapter 20 · The Kamunabi's Weapon
็ฅๅฅๅใฎๆญฆๅจ / Kamunabi no Buki · Rakuzaichi Arc · Takeru Hokazono
Hakuri's past is a graveyard. The Rakuzaichi is the undertaker.
In an elevator descending into the underworld, Hakuri confesses everything to Chihiro. He was born into the Sazanami Clan — raised from childhood to honor the Rakuzaichi auction above all else, trained in sorcery to protect it. But he was useless. His sorcery failed. He interfered with the auction. And so they disowned him.
Then he says the words that freeze Chihiro's blood: the Rakuzaichi doesn't just sell objects. It sells people. Living or dead. Hakuri grew up seeing it as normal. Now he sees it as loathsome. His goal isn't redemption — it's destruction.
Chihiro reveals his own target: Shinuchi. The centerpiece of this year's auction. If stolen, the Rakuzaichi collapses. Their goals align by pure coincidence — or fate.
But Shiba's call shatters the moment. Hiyuki Kagari is coming. Wielder of the Flame Bone of the Starving — a power that rivals the Enchanted Blades, beyond standard sorcery.
The elevator doors open. Hiyuki stands across from them, flanked by Tafuku — a rikishi-dressed sorcerer who declares the space a "holy sumo ring," separated from reality until the match ends.
Hiyuki doesn't negotiate. She attacks. Flame Bone erupts — a burning skeletal fist around her arm. Chihiro blocks with Aka, but the spirit energy is overwhelming. He's slammed into a pillar. She demands both Enchanted Blades — Enten and Cloud Gouger.
Chihiro tells her Cloud Gouger is broken. She doesn't believe him. He doesn't care. He has no wish to kill Kamunabi agents.
Hiyuki kneels. Summons Ribs — flaming bones erupt from the ground. She cites Kazane's fate — lost arm, annihilated squad — as proof that individuals wielding Enchanted Blades bring only tragedy. The blades must be controlled by the Kamunabi for national security.
Chihiro falters. Sojo's blood on his hands. The memory of failure.
But Hakuri moves. He throws himself between Hiyuki's fist and Chihiro's face. Takes the blow. Crumples. And says the only thing that matters:
"You saved me."
Hakuri's body-check — the panel where he leaps in front of Hiyuki's flaming fist, face-first, no sorcery, no plan, just pure conviction. Chihiro's shock. Tafuku's wince. Hakuri on the ground, bloodied, smiling. "I don't understand your circumstances or the Enchanted Blades... but you saved me." The fanbase erupted. "Hakuri went from zero to hero in 20 chapters." "He has no powers and he still took the hit." "This is the moment Hakuri became a samurai."
- The weapon of ideology — Hiyuki believes she's righteous. The Enchanted Blades are too dangerous for individuals. The state must control them. But her "holy sumo ring" is a cage, and her rhetoric is a weapon. The chapter asks: who polices the police?
- The weapon of memory — Chihiro is haunted by Sojo's bloodshed, by Kazane's lost arm. Hiyuki uses these memories against him. Guilt is a blade that cuts deeper than Flame Bone. The chapter asks: can you fight when your own conscience disarms you?
- The weapon of the powerless — Hakuri has no sorcery. No Enchanted Blade. No training. But he has will. His body is his weapon, his conviction his shield. The chapter argues that the weakest character just became the most dangerous — because he has nothing to lose and everything to prove.
Chapter 20 is a narrative detonation. It transforms Hakuri from a comic relief sidekick into the emotional core of the arc. It reveals the Sazanami Clan's rot. It introduces Hiyuki as a physical and ideological threat. It weaponizes Chihiro's own guilt against him. And it ends with a sacrifice so pure it redefines what "strength" means in this series. Takeru Hokazono is playing 4D chess with character arcs, and Hakuri just became his most unexpected queen.
If you love chapters where the weakest character becomes the most important through sheer heart… this chapter will wreck you.
